makeover

just a quick idea, this pic was in the Sunday Times today and I think that it is great inspiration for the Angels bedroom makeover.
He doesn't know that he is having one but his current room has a coat of paint slapped on the old wallpaper, furniture that he has had since he was 12 and a bed, well I seem to remember it was his first!
I have always painted murals on his walls but when we moved here he said not to bother.
I know that this room doesn't reflect his current interests but I think that it has enough Brit cool to be a basis.

Vintage Bazaar Frome

Well what a busy day, Clare and Lizzie played a blinder! I apologise for the few pictures that I took but by the time that I had set up the doors had opened and from then on it was tricky to take any pics. I only took the ones of my own stall at the end of the day!

I wasn’t feeling to well and thank Michael for all of his help, and I apologise if I seemed a bit vacant to anyone (some might say no difference to normal).

However it was a great day & success.

Inspired by Elaine, this morning when I took Flo for her walk the camera came aswell.
I love my zinc buckets outside the house and just pop what looks nice into them.

As we walked along the lane, the colours are lovely, some of my favourites are burnt orange & lime green
 hello little chap
 "What is it Flo?"
about 50 canada geese, a swan & Mr & Mrs Mallard, grazing.
Shall we chase them?? No lets go home for a hot choc!
I have just loaded the van and am not happy with what I am taking, but heyho!!
I now have to pack all of Tom's stuff for him to take back to college (yes he is going back this time!), as he spent soooooo long cleaning his room yesterday that he didn't have time, and if it isn't ready when his Dad comes to pick him up, all hell will break loose!
Tom obviously isn't here now to do it himself as he has gone off beating for the day!
Have I got something wrong somewhere?

Shelves:part 3

I tried the shelves today, I think that they look great, I think that the French doll will sit on the top shelf & I have an idea of wool blankets on the bottom, however even if I did a precision plan, I would change it on the day, unpacking
your brain buzzes and sometimes you have a flash of inspiration and display things completely differently.
For my final stall display come back Sunday or visit me at the Vintage Bazaar in Frome this Saturday where there will be lots of stalls selling original vintage clothing, homewares, jewellery, textiles & decorative items. The big day is not far away so if you are looking for something individual, this is the place.
As Lizzie would say " only 2 more sleeps"!

an afternoon off

Sometimes when you think that problems within your family are caused by something you may have done, it can be an idea to take time out. I had asked Tom if he would like to do something as I wanted to spend some time with him.
He decided on fishing, when at home he likes to go to the Lenches Lakes.
The lakes are owned and managed by Amanda & Simon, who I have known for a long time, although I haven't seen Amanda for years (I used to go out with her brother, many years ago). Gosh it took me back to my teenage years to talk to her, as she looked as she did at 21, and her brother phoned while I was there and I spoke to him, now that was strange, I felt like the silly school girl that I was way back then.
Back to the object of the day, and what a beautiful autumnal day, I think that I will let the pictures do the talking.....

Rainbow trout, although not for tea, as I am allergic to fish.
I enjoyed the sun, quiet & company, we need to do it more often.
Tom has arranged for him & me to go clay pigeon shooting at Christmas, I am really looking forward to that, what a lovely surprise.

a little dilemma

Hello 55, I am so happy for all of you to be here.
Do you remember the little armchair? Well here she is in her laundered clothes, isn't she pretty?
The dilemma? should she go to Frome (I don't actually think that she will fit onto my stand) or should I move the cupboard and sofa and keep her at home, she wouldn't really fit in here with my eclectic colourful room, but Mum said oh wouldn't she be nice for the seaside cotty (when we get it?!).
What shall I do ?????

shelf progress & something comfy for the weekend....

Continuing on from the blog, setting out my stall, here are the shelves that Michael has made for me,
next choose a fabric
Sanderson covered and ready to go, to see the finished stand, it will be at the Vintage Bazaar in Frome next Saturday.

and something comfy? I bought this lovely little armchair this morning, she is very comfy and compact in size, with lovely painted legs, circa 1930's. She owns a lovely slip cover in a silvery/grey damask, currently being laundered. If I can bear to part with her & if she will fit onto my stall, she will also debut at the Vintage Bazaar. (I am aiming for a look of faded elegance).

Mabel Lucie Atwell

mabel lucie 002

I found a 1950’s Mabel Lucie Atwell annual today ,lovely illustrations, poems & stories, although I shouldn’t encourage such behavior, the plates are so wonderful that they could all be framed and would make fantastic nursery pictures.
I am trying a new way of posting from Windows 7, lets see if it works?!……........yes it does and have a look at the album bit! Modern technology eh?!

a brighter outlook...

Today is brighter, I found this lovely fabric and thought that I would share it with you, currently a pair of curtains wouldn't it make smashing cushions?
Florence has been supervising the ironing, I think that it was a bit too much for her, you can't quite see but rather than her usual cotton bandana she is modelling a black/floral silk chiffon square scarf, far more feminine.
Oh yes did you read the story of Josephine, on Jayne's blog (http://www.countrycottagechic2.blogspot.com/), well I have to admit Josephine used to belong to me, the reason that Jayne had to make her a beautiful new dress is because the dress that she used to wear was this lovely black/floral pinafore dress which I found in my fabric cupboard this afternoon. The reason that I haven't parted with it ?

It was mine when I was a toddler!

setting out my stall...

As many of you know, when I do a fair I usually have a large stall, next Saturday, at the Vintage Bazaar in Frome, I have to down size and have also had a re-think of what to take with me.
No rail, as I have decided to have an "L" shape table. Yesterday I bought a French ladder which is the basis of my stall along with some rusty old metal!?!
I also thought that for those of you who may not know how a stall works, this is how I do mine.........

Table coverings are a shimmery silver chinoiserie, French ladder just waiting for Michael to make some shelves which will be covered in fabric.
Rusty old iron work & a piece of crumpled toile make my centrepiece (off centre though), with antlers & white lights.
Beautiful pitch pine corbels and pale green painted shelves.

added mirrors & crates
I think that my shelves will be colour co-ordinated floral/black/leather/pink etc

building up layers of interesting decorative items without hiding what is below or behind
beautiful vintage papier mache boxes, I sometimes wish that I could be minimal but I love colour too much.
Finally waiting for the finishing touches, the shelves for my fabrics & cushions.
Obviously in situ things will look slightly different and will be tweaked, but that is the way that I set out my stall.
I would like to thank everyone that has sent me lovely comments, you are very kind and it means a lot to know that you care.

New stock & can Michael make it as a Jack Wills model?

Today, having left the van loaded last night, we went off at 5.30 am to Newbury racecourse, not for a day at the geegees, but another day selling my lovely wares :-), with some new stock,
The screen is four fold and covered on one side with a lovely 70's faded green & yellow floral
the art deco curvy dressing table & 70's/80's ottoman

Lovely "Rob Roy" childs tweed deerstalker jacket

decoy duck & leather wear!
If you read one of my earlier posts about Autumn fashion, you will remember my love of the Jack Wills look. This is my own twist on it for Michael without the expense, vintage tweed of course, he did forget his vintage brogues though! Do you think that he has the look?

p.s. I have just noticed that I have lost one of my 52 valued followers, it is quite a shock, did I do something wrong?
