Love it or hate it??

Doing a good turn today led me to make this little find, when selling, I usually work on the principle of " I only buy what  I like", you can see which way this is going, but I came upon a set of three "pebble" Ercol tables, what should I do?
I  hate the stuff, but.........so yes I bought them.
Do you have the "Marmite" feeling about Ercol??

  1. dare i say it....I actually think these are fabulous! Although I have a massive thing for painting furniture so they might not stay 'brown' in my home for long! Scarlett x

  2. Well I slightly agree with you I remember my grandfather's house, with an ercol settee and chairs it all seemed so wrong in a 13th century cottage, so I have not had a soft spot for them at all, But maybe in a retro house they would go down well.

  3. I have a sort of love hate relationship with Ercol - it turned up in so many places I worked as a residential childcare officer in the 70's, but it has got a certain style and it's well made. Feel a bit the same about Gplan - a great favourite with my mother-in-law!

  5. Love it! Get one of those fab spindle back love seats and some '50s atomic cushions and it would be gorgeous!

  6. I don't like Ercol, but what makes me a real heathen is that I come from High Wycombe where the stuff was made!! I do love antique Windsor chairs though, and I treasure my great Grandfather's Wycombe chair that he won on Booker Common in the 1920's bowling for a pig!!

  8. I love Ercol. Had loads in the past and still have one of their large, light elm, sideboards with three cupboards and two long drawers in daily use. It is now 51 years old! and still looks good. Ann x

  9. You can see my sideboard on my blog. As it is now 51 years old is it a Young Antique? Ann x

  10. The term 'nest of tables' makes me shudder as a rule (very Hyacinth Bucket) but these are a lovely shape. I guess you have to think commercial in the selling business and these will be snapped up I'm sure. I find it hard to make anything for sale that I wouldn't have in my own home though.

  11. I personally don't like them - but it's an age thing - 'young things' are snapping them up, so you'll make a good profit! What did you do with the eiderdown - chop or save? Also, did you know you can get a car with an Orla Kiely pattern on the roof?

  15. I love Ercol. When I was training to be a teacher, the dining hall of my college was furnished with Ercol. After that I was hooked on it and even bought some for my first home...in the lighter wood, not the dark.
Then it seemed to go out of fashion and I sold it all a few years ago...dammit!
Mind you,you need the right house for Ercol! But it is quality and boy does it sit well with all those gorgeous 50s/60s barkcloth fabric designs!
    ;-)
