How I wish we had smelliblogland !

Before I show pictures of a slightly different stall layout at Malvern yesterday, I thought that I would show you this beautiful large blousy single rose that my Mum cut for me this morning, the scent is amazing, I am privileged as we are not usually allowed to cut the roses as she prefers them in situe, she thinks that this year the displays will be magnificent and I will blog them when they are in full bloom.

Back to business, yesterday was strange, last Bank holiday at Malvern most people had a blinder, yesterday however most people that I spoke to sold about half of what they usually do, I am glad that it wasn't just me. I know that perhaps I shouldn't say that but I had a whole rail of lovely dresses and had wondered if it was the stock. Prices maybe, but I am always happy to negotiate?

Donna Flower had told me that she had seen some dresses in Totnes not as nice as mine for more money, so what was the problem?

I did notice that a few of my regular ladies did not come round and the fair was really big, maybe people had spent up before they came into the cattle sheds?

One lady had run out of money but she is sending a cheque and I will post the lovely nautical blue & white stripey number to her.
Unfortunatly I had gone with expectations of a very good day, usually I am pessimistic as then you can't be dissappointed, Michael being new to this business is always optimistic, however he learnt a lesson yesterday!
I hope that you all had a nicer day.

  1. Sorry it wasn't a great day, Tracy, I have found fairs on Bank Holidays are not always as busy, I think a lot of people go away on holiday. The dresses look fab, hope I will see you at a fair to have a look. Your stock is lovely so it must just have been a "freak" day.
The young one is doing really well at school, thanks for asking, they think he is marvellous (!) and more importantly, he loves it.

  2. Oo-er Tracey - perhaps your poor sales were due to my non-appearance(!) Sadly due to the combined effects of warm sunshine and wine on Sunday we overslept on Monday and neither of us could face the long drive to and from Malvern. We did recover to visit a local antiques fair later in the day and it was very quiet as well. Maybe a seasonal blip? (But I shall be emailing you about the dresses.)

  3. Well, it's not your stock or prices - you have lovely things & your prices are reasonable. Your stall is the prettiest at Malvern by a mile! Isn't it funny how you never know how an event will go?

  4. Hi Tracey, so sorry to hear about your disappointing day. We had a similar problem at Chagford Garden Fair on Saturday.. not enough customers & the ones who were there didn't want to spend! Onwards & upwards as they say in this game!!! Lizzie x

  5. I am amazed that you didn't have a good day.Your stock looks wonderful and I would have certainly bought up a good amount of it had I been there! Never mind, your stock will travel to the next fair and will probably sell well. We all have good and bad days.

I am so looking forward to seeing my dress, my cheque is in the post :-)

Oh and can you tell me if you still have the seasidey, pink things (curtains?) I can see in photo 3?

  6. Seemed like that all over the fair to me, lots of stalls and lots of people but hardly anyone buying. Sorry, we didn't get as far as the inside stalls as daughter had to get back - next time we'll start inside!
